Kapi se urin hum naahi

Poet: Goswami Tulsidas

Bharat Bhai, Kapi se urin hum naahi
Aitho khaaye, achhoot khavavaat,
Haath dhovat tak naahi,

Sau yojan maryaad Sindhu ki,
laangh gayo pal maahi,
Lanka jaayi, Siya sodhi laaye
Garb nahin man maahi

Shakti baan lagyo lachhman ke
Shor shor shor bhayo dal maahi
Dronagiri parvat le aayo
Bhor hone nahin paayi

ahi Raavan ki bhuja ukhaadi
Baith rahyo Math maahi
Ya par Bharat, jo Hanumant na hote,
Ko lyaavat jag maahi

Tulsidaas Maarutsut mahima
Prabhu apne mukh se gaayi

After his 14 year long "Vanvaas" (stay in the forest), Lord Rama returns to Ayodhya. He meets his brother Bharat and narrates who all helped him. In this particular verse, Lord Rama talks about how and how much he is indebted to the great ape Lord Hanuman.

The one take-away line is "Kapi se urin hum naahi". Translated, the line means, "I am not free of debt from the ape".

The humility of Lord Rama as described by Goswami Tulsidas. For all his greatness, Lord Rama never forgets the debt he owes to the ape. A prejudiced being may think of the ape as being insignificant. Never such a sin is committed by Lord Rama.

Hi Aniket, thanks for this. Would you know which book of Tulsidas has this poem? I am not sure if its Ramcharitmanas itself.. can you confirm?

Hi Aniket, thanks for the translation. I love this poetry and also the rendition by Pandit Jasraj. But I am having a hard time finding the source (book) from which it is taken. I have tried to look into Google search using Tulsidas and some lines from the poetry but to no avail. Could you help?
